  1. Growing up in New Mexico, where there was a lot of government work going on during WWII and the Cold War years, we were raised to believe there were certain things you just did not ask. Although Charlie’s age puts her a bit later in history, I wanted to capture that secretive feeling and show the danger that she might have encountered had she asked the questions she did in this book.
